How to Open an eBay Seller Account for Dropshipping in 2026

Opening an eBay seller account for dropshipping takes 15 minutes if you register as professional, link a bank account in the same name, and list five books a day for the first week before connecting any tool. That last step is what protects new sellers from eBay's most common opening-week suspension.

What you need before opening an eBay seller account

Three documents and one decision. Have them ready before the registration form, eBay rejects accounts that pause halfway through verification.

  • A tax ID matching the legal name you will use on the account (in Italy: codice fiscale).
  • A bank account in the exact same name, Italian IBAN or any European IBAN supported by eBay.
  • A professional email, ideally a Gmail you check daily.
  • The decision: register as professional, not private. Dropshipping requires a professional account from day one.

How to register an eBay seller account as a professional

Go to eBay.it (or your local eBay domain) and click Register, then Professional. In the Legal entity field enter your full name, use your professional email, and set Italy as the country. eBay then asks whether you operate as sole proprietorship or company, choose sole proprietorship.

The registration walks through three blocks: personal data (name, date of birth, nationality, tax ID, legal address, phone), bank linking, and product declaration. Fill every field in full, no abbreviations. Mismatches between this form and your bank account are the most common rejection cause for new sellers.

Linking your bank account and verifying identity

Connect the IBAN where you want to receive eBay payouts. Any Italian or European bank works, including digital banks like Revolut. The name on the bank account must match the legal name used in the registration form, no nicknames, no different spellings.

After bank linking, eBay asks for a product declaration. Pick "other" as category, declare 100-500 items in stock, and 50,000 € or less as monthly volume. Do not mention dropshipping or Amazon anywhere in this step, eBay throttles new sellers who flag the model on day one.

Verify the email and phone number from Account Settings, and accept the passkey prompt if eBay offers it. Verified contact channels raise the trust score eBay assigns to new accounts.

How to set up your eBay Premium store

Open the seller console from Account Settings, then click Store and Choose a store type. The right tier for a serious dropshipping operation is Premium: 49.95 € per month, up to 10,000 active listings, automatic renewal each month per listing.

The 10,000 cap is rolling, not monthly. A listing posted on the first of the month expires on the same date the next month and renews automatically, so you only hit the ceiling if you genuinely keep 10,000 unique products active at the same time. The next tier, Premium Plus, removes the cap and only makes sense once you scale across multiple stores.

Pick your store name during checkout, it should match the username chosen at registration to keep your brand consistent.

Customize your eBay store branding

A bare store looks suspicious to both eBay and buyers. Add a logo and a banner before listing anything. The fastest free option is generating both assets with Gemini's image model: open Gemini, describe a clean logo for your store name, and download the result.

In the eBay store dashboard click Customize, upload the logo on the dedicated slot, then upload a wider version as banner. Skip featured categories for now, you will configure them after the first 50 real listings.

Upload your first eBay listing: warm up with books

The first product you publish must be a paperback book, not a dropshipping product. Open the store, click List an item, search a real ISBN (for example Marcus Aurelius' Meditations) and pick the matching catalog entry.

Fill the required item specifics: country of origin, publication year, language, subject, publisher, condition. Mark the book as new, paste a description copied from the Amazon listing, and use a fixed price (no auctions). Price the book deliberately high, around 45 €, you do not want it to sell, you want the listing to exist.

Enable returns, set 30 days at buyer expense, accept the proposed shipping rates, and publish. Nobody will return a book they did not buy, so the return policy carries zero real risk.

Why list only books for the first 7 days

eBay's trust system scores new accounts on the patterns of their first activity. Listing dropshipping products in week one triggers automatic review, listing 4-5 books a day for a week makes the account look like a normal seller. You are not optimizing for sales, you are optimizing for account survival.

  • 4-5 books per day, every day, until day 7.
  • Upload from the eBay website only, no third-party tools yet.
  • Keep prices high enough to avoid actual orders.
  • Vary categories slightly (essays, fiction, philosophy) for natural distribution.

By day 7 you will have around 30 listings, a complete profile, verified contact channels, and a clean activity history. That is the baseline eBay needs before allowing any automation on the account.

Do not connect any software in the first week
