Overview
Monthly eBay Store subscriptions (ebay.com.au) offer lower final value fees (FVF) compared to selling without a Store. As a subscriber, you also gain access to additional tools to manage and promote your business (some may involve extra costs). In general, we do not charge a fee to create a listing, except when using optional paid upgrades.
eBay.com.au may apply additional charges depending on your selling activity (e.g., international sales), your seller performance level, and service metrics. Most fees and costs (e.g., shipping labels purchased through eBay, buyer refunds) are deducted from sales proceeds before payout.
eBay Store subscriptions and fees
We charge a monthly fee for eBay Store packages. The inclusions are described in the Seller Centre (“eBay Stores”). Billing continues monthly until the subscription is cancelled. For details on upgrades, downgrades, and cancellations, see the Store Subscription Terms of Service.

Fees at the time of listing
In general, on eBay.com.au it is free to list items in both auction and fixed price format. During the listing process, you can select optional paid features to highlight the listing. Any applicable fees are shown before submission.
Note: limits and exclusions apply. See the “Complete terms for listing fees” section.
Complete terms for listing fees
- With an eBay Store subscription on eBay.com.au you are entitled to 250,000 free listings/month (auction or fixed price) in most categories, including new listings, relists, and early ended listings.
- Beyond the free monthly quota, or if you list in excluded categories, an excess listing fee of $0.05 (excl. GST) per listing applies (see “category pricing list - PDF” for exclusions).
- Existing selling limits on the account (including category/item limits) still apply and may prevent you from reaching the maximum number of listings.
- If you list in two categories, you pay the fee for the second category and all other optional features are charged twice (once per category).
- Fees may apply if the listing remains active for over a year without sales.
- Auction listings: may be automatically relisted up to 8 times if unsold. Excess and optional feature fees are charged only on the first listing.
- Fixed price listings: are “Good ’Til Cancelled” – they auto-renew once per month unless all units are sold, you end it manually, or it violates policy. Excess/feature fees apply to the original listing and once per month after renewal.
- Excess and optional upgrade fees are non-refundable once charged, even if the item doesn’t sell or you remove the upgrade.
Fees at the time of sale (Final Value Fees - FVF)
You pay one final value fee (FVF) per item sold on eBay, without third-party payment processing fees.
The FVF is calculated as a percentage of the total sale amount per item (item price + shipping/handling + applicable taxes), plus a fixed order fee. The percentage varies depending on sale price, category, and eBay Store package.

If the item doesn’t sell
Normally, you do not pay the FVF. However, if eBay determines that you may have completed a sale outside eBay, you will be charged an FVF for the brokerage (introducing you to the buyer).
Refunds or cancellations
If you refund a buyer or cancel a sale, you may be entitled to fee credits.
Sellers below performance standards
- If on the 20th of the month your level is Below Standard, an additional +5% (excl. GST) applies to the total sale amount for all categories in the next month.
- If the service metrics on the 20th show a Very High rate of “Item not as described” returns in one or more categories, an additional +5% (excl. GST) applies to the total sale amount in those categories the following month.
You can check this anytime in the Seller standards dashboard and the Service metrics dashboard.
Complete terms for FVF
- When you sell an item, the FVF = % of total per item (item price + shipping/handling + taxes) + $0.30 per order (excl. GST).
- Item price: winning bid (auction), Buy It Now price (fixed price or auction with BIN), or offer price (Best Offer or seller offer accepted).
- Shipping/handling: includes shipping, handling, and additional buyer-paid services (e.g., signature on delivery).
- Order: any number of items purchased by the same buyer, in the same checkout, with the same delivery method.
- If the buyer uses a voucher/coupon/discount (funded by eBay, the seller, or both) at checkout, the FVF is calculated on the original total amount (before the discount).
- If the buyer redeems a seller-issued coded coupon, the FVF is calculated on the discounted amount.
- FVF percentages depend on sale price, category, Store package, and seller performance.
- If you list in two categories with different FVFs, the higher one applies when the item sells.
- On the portion above $4,000, the reduced rate (2.5%) applies (e.g., 10.4% on $4,000 + 2.5% on excess + $0.30).
- If your level is Below Standard and/or Very High on service metrics, the variable FVF increases by 5 percentage points. Listings subject to the surcharge are indicated in the Seller account section.
- In case of a refund to the buyer, you may be entitled to fee credits.
Charges for advertising and additional services
The following additional costs may apply:
- Promoted listings (ad fees).
- eBay shipping labels purchased by the seller.
- eBay return labels used by the buyer to return an item.
- Refunds issued by eBay to the buyer under the eBay Money Back Guarantee or in relation to a payment dispute.
- Third-party services offered on eBay, if chosen.
Dispute fees
If you are found responsible for a chargeback or another disputed amount under eBay policies, we apply a dispute fee of $22 (excl. GST) per dispute.
International sales fee
If your registered address is in Australia, you pay an international sales fee when the delivery destination (entered by the buyer at checkout) is outside Australia.
- The fee is 1% (excl. GST) of the total sale amount (including shipping/handling and applicable taxes/fees) and is automatically deducted from sales proceeds.
- If your registered address is not in Australia, check the fee page for your Country/Region.
Seller currency conversion charge
When you create listings or sell on an international eBay site, eBay may convert funds into another currency to collect fees due or to pay out proceeds.
- Example: registered address in AU, listing on eBay.de with fees due → eBay converts from AUD to EUR at the transaction rate (at the time of listing) to collect fees. At sale, eBay calculates payout by converting proceeds from EUR to AUD at the transaction rate at the time of sale.
- The eBay transaction rate consists of a base exchange rate (wholesale/market or government reference) + a conversion charge (fixed percentage).
- If the registered address is in Australia, the conversion charge applied and retained by eBay is 3% (excl. GST). If not in Australia, check the fee page for your Country/Region.
Additional terms and conditions for eBay fees
Billing and payment
- Most fees and selling costs are automatically deducted from proceeds before payout. Details are in your Financial statement.
- If pending payout funds do not cover the costs, we will charge the payment method associated with the seller account or collect as provided in the Payments Terms of Use.
Goods and Services Tax (GST)
- If the registered address is in Australia, GST (10%) is due on eBay fees. Unless you provide an ABN and register for GST exemption, eBay fees will be inclusive of GST.
- If you reside outside Australia, depending on local law, GST/VAT or an equivalent tax may apply.
- Details of taxes charged on seller fees are in the monthly invoice.
- More information is available in the Tax policy.
Other terms
- Fee amounts are based on the terms in effect when the listing goes live and at renewal.
- The fees on this page apply to eBay.com.au. If you list on another eBay site (e.g., eBay.com, eBay.co.uk), that site’s fees apply.
- All fees are in Australian dollars (AUD) unless otherwise stated.
- Indexing delays may occur: eBay does not guarantee the exact duration of listing visibility.
- eBay may place third-party advertising on any site page.
Conclusion
With an eBay Store, you benefit from reduced FVFs and access to professional tools to grow your business. Listing fees are generally free, with costs for optional upgrades. The FVF depends on category, Store package, and performance; additional fees may apply for international sales, currency conversion, and extra services. Regularly check your metrics and review the terms to manage sales costs effectively and transparently.
