Fees -> Ebay -> eBay US

Sellers Without Store US

Documentation page that fully explains insertion and final value fees, shipping-related exceptions, fee tables by category, as well as performance surcharges, international fees, and currency conversion.

Overview

This page provides a detailed description of the selling fees applied to sellers without an eBay store on ebay.com.
There are two main types: an insertion fee when you create a listing and a final value fee when the item is sold. The actual amounts depend on the item’s price, listing format and category, optional upgrades, and your conduct and performance as a seller.

Types of fees

  • Insertion fee: charged when you create the listing. Each month includes up to 250 zero-fee listings (more if you have an eBay Store).
  • Final value fee: charged once only when the item sells. It is calculated as a percentage of the total sale amount, plus a per-order fee:
    • Orders ≤ $10.00: $0.30 per order
    • Orders > $10.00: $0.40 per order

Insertion fees

Each month you receive up to 250 zero-fee listings (or more with an eBay Store). Once the monthly free quota is exceeded, insertion fees apply as follows:

  • Non-refundable if the item does not sell.
  • Charged per listing and per category. If you list in two categories, you pay the fee for the second as well.
  • Charged for the original listing and every relist.
  • Charged per listing in case of duplicate auction-style listings for identical items (see “Duplicate listings policy”).
  • Charged once only for a listing with multiple items or variations.

“Good ’Til Cancelled” (GTC) listings

Fixed price listings that auto-renew once per calendar month.

  • The insertion fee and any optional upgrade fees are charged at first publication and at each renewal.
  • These listings consume your monthly free listings.
  • Amounts follow the terms in effect at the time of publishing and renewal.

Final value fees

The fee applies when the item sells and there are no third-party payment processing fees.

  • Total sale amount: includes item price, handling, shipping charges collected from the buyer (with some exceptions, see below), sales tax, and other applicable charges.
  • Order: any number of items purchased from the same buyer at checkout with the same shipping method.
  • Refunds/Cancellations: you may receive fee credits under the “fee credits” policy.

Exceptions in shipping calculation (for final value fee)

  • If you offer 1-day shipping or international shipping in addition to a cheaper or free option (e.g., domestic shipping), the total sale amount is based on the cheapest domestic option.
    • If you offer only 1-day or international shipping (no cheaper domestic option), the amount is based on the service chosen by the buyer.
    • Geographic exception: if you are located in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Macao, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam and the item is not located in the USA, the total sale amount is always calculated based on the shipping service chosen by the buyer.
  • With eBay International Shipping, the fee on shipping is calculated on the cost to the US hub. If you listed free domestic shipping, no shipping fee is charged.
  • For sneakers with Authenticity Guarantee and a free shipping label provided, eBay collects a fixed shipping charge from the buyer, but no fee applies to shipping.

Base fees for most categories

Below are the insertion fees and final value fees (percentage + per-order fee) for the main categories and the monthly free listing allowance.

Note:
Unless otherwise indicated, the first 250 listings/month are free, then $0.35 per listing. The per-order fee is $0.30 for orders ≤ $10 and $0.40 for orders > $10.

Additional final value fees

Additional final value fees may apply in two cases: off-platform transactions or seller performance not meeting standards.

Off-eBay buying/selling

If you provide/request contact information to buy/sell outside eBay, a final value fee is charged based on the total sale amount even if the item does not sell. Calculation:

  • Fixed price: the higher of the fixed price or the price agreed between parties.

Sellers below performance standards

Additional fees apply to sales if:

  • Your account is rated Below Standard (US) at the 20th of the month check → +6% on applicable final value fees in the following month (not applied to Above Standard or Top-rated Sellers).
  • “Item not as described” rate is Very High at the 20th of the month in one or more categories → +5% on final value fees in those categories the following month.

Note:
If the account is Below Standard and the “Item not as described” rate is Very High, only the Below Standard surcharge is charged. Listings subject to surcharges are shown in your Account Summary.

Dispute fee

If you are found responsible for a disputed amount under policies (e.g., chargeback), a $20.00 dispute fee (taxes excluded) is charged per dispute.

International fee

If your registered address is in the USA and you offer eBay International Shipping for eligible listings, the international fee is not charged when the eligible item sells.

If you do not use eBay International Shipping, the international fee applies if:

  • The buyer’s delivery address is outside the USA, or
  • The buyer’s registered address is outside the USA (regardless of delivery address).

Amount: 1.65% of the total sale amount, deducted automatically.

If your registered address is not in the USA, check the fees page for your Country/Region (link at the bottom).

Seller currency conversion charge

When you create listings or sell on an international site, eBay may convert funds into another currency to collect amounts due or make payouts.

Example: registered address in the USA, listing on eBay.de → eBay converts USD→EUR at listing time to collect fees; when sold, converts proceeds EUR→USD at the transaction exchange rate.

  • The transaction exchange rate includes a base rate (wholesale markets or government reference) + a conversion charge (fixed percentage retained by eBay).
  • If your registered address is in the USA, the conversion charge is 3%.
  • If you are not in the USA, check the fees page for your Country/Region.

Other terms and conditions

  • Use of supplementary services (e.g., shipping labels) or advertising programs involves additional terms and charges/fees listed in the monthly statement; charges are billed to the payment method set in your seller account.
  • All fees are in US dollars.
  • In some cases, sellers may be invoiced for fees.
  • Fees may apply if you end an auction early.
  • The fees here apply to listings on eBay.com; if you list on other sites (e.g., eBay.co.uk), that site’s fees apply.
  • Fees do not guarantee exclusivity on pages: eBay may show third-party ads and other sellers’ listings at its discretion.
  • Depending on your country’s tax law, VAT/GST or similar taxes may apply to fees.

Conclusion

Fees depend on price, format, category, optional upgrades, geographic area, and seller performance. This guide provides operational details to calculate costs and proceeds, choose the most suitable format, and understand exceptions, surcharges, and special cases (real estate, Classified Ads, international shipping, currency conversion). Use it as a reference to evaluate the profitability of your listings.
